Via Mark Katzman: Early in the 1990’s when AOL was new to the scene and communicating on-line was a revolutionary phenomenon – I met Mark Sink and Anne Arden McDonald in the Fine Art Photography “chatroom.” Talking on line wasn’t enough so we met up for an epic (mod squad-esque) road trip across the southwest, photographing anything and everything – but mostly each other. The larger image above is of Anne. We had just woken up after sleeping out on a rock overlooking Gooseneck in Southern Utah and started goofing off. The wind was blowing and we used a large black bed sheet to wrap her in. Ironically, it ended up in Communication Arts.
The lower right image is one we shot at Gooseneck the night before taking the picture of Anne in the black sheet. The bottom left was taken by Mark. Mark was a graduate of Warhol’s Factory and had been taking what is now popularly called ‘selfies’ for years. He was very Good at it. We are all still close friends and shoot together as much as possible.
