PROOF is an organization that uses visual storytelling for human rights education and social change through multimedia projects. They partnered with the University of Dayton to focus on a moral courage project in Ferguson, where citizens stood up to speak out against injustice and moved on to become activists in their community, and photographer Mark Katzman to create the prolific portraits.
The subjects were all individuals who were inspired to activism by the events in Ferguson. Mark chose the locations to reflect each individual subject’s story, mostly shot in and around Ferguson. The images were originally requested in a vertical format; however, mark encouraged the team to redesign the panels to incorporate horizontal images to allow for more visual story.
The images are part of an impactful traveling exhibit of 22 panels total (each is 36 inches wide and 8 feet high) and an interactive website with portraits and audio, designed by Toky. Each subject’s story is also featured in a podcast on Soundcloud.
